I just noticed Rey (The Last Jedi) and Qui-Gon Jinn have the same hairstyle.

So any guesses when Disney decides to reissue a new release of the classic films? I think they're still working out the kinks of the Fox buyout, but hopefully soon after that.

It's fun to think about all the possibilities though-- some kind of Ultimate set? I can imagine it-- NEWLY RESTORED IN DISNEYtm 4K:

1 disc for the restored original versions, 1 each for the 1997 Special Editions, and 1 each for the 2004/2011 versions.

Then you can throw in the prequels too-- Episode I: 4K remaster of the 1999 theatrical cut, 2001 extended cut, and 2011 versions.
Episode II: First cut transferred to film, 2nd Digital Cut, IMAX Cut, and finally the 2011 version.
Episode III: Uh... the movie in 4K.

I would love for Disney to fully restore the 6 movies and all additional deleted and extended footage and make insert all scenes into the movies as fully extended as they can. Like the TV edit of superman. Just something for those that enjoy extended cuts.

Rey has no last name because she's Icelandic. There, problem solved.

I'd be happy with just a clean cut of the theatrical release of the first film. Apparently, there's a Despecialized version floating about, but I'd rather wait for a legit release.

Icelanders have last names. You must be thinking of Björk.

No, I know they do. But since her parents are nobody, and Icelandic surnames for girls are ___sdóttir (___'s daughter), she has no name.

It would be great if DISNEY released fully restored clean theatrical cuts of the original trilogy.

I would be most interested in seeing an extended/alternate cut of Rogue One.

But, on the other hand, we never saw Luke or Anakin using telepathy or telekinesis until after they were trained, or at least iniatiated into the Force. After four years, Luke could barely telekinetically lift his lightsaber from the snow.

The way the Force has been portrayed previously is that people who were strong with the Force had things like enhanced reflexes, insight, and intuition, but they needed to train and practice to be able to use things that break the laws of physics like the mind trick and telekinesis.

I use this analogy... it's like being a basketball player. One might have a lot of physical attributes and natural skills that would make them a good basketball player, but they still need to learn how to play the game and practice at it.

But the way the sequel trilogy is treating the Force, it's not an energy field that can be harnessed, it just grants people super powers. Like Rey, or Leia, or the kid with the broom.

(And, yes, Anakin blowing up the base in TPM was stupid, too. One of the many reasons that movie is reviled.)

Considering the nature of the Star Wars franchise, where every character in the Cantina was given a full name despite having only a fraction of a second of dark, blurry screentime, when your lead character doesn't have a last name, it's pretty much telling us that it's an important plot point.

For godsake, we know the guy in Empire Strikes Back that's fleeing Cloud City with an ice cream maker is named Willrow Hood.

No offense, but this is over-thinking, nit-picky B.S. I don't really care about.

It might be kinda nit-picky to you, but it does highlight an underlying difference in the way the Force was handled in TFA, so cue the Mary Sue comments. Of course TLJ has kinda explained it, the Force awoke in Rey to balance things out with Kylo and Snoke, thus she didn’t need to “learn” as such.

The argument seems to be though, that it’s not as interesting watching a character just “do stuff” because the Force empowered them, when previously the heroes have gone through a period of time learning about the Force and how to do things, requiring discipline, and being instructed by mentors, even if they had some natural gift to start with.

It certainly seems to divide people, as many are fine with Rey and how it was handled, but many others, not so much. I don’t think it’s nit-picky or overthinking though, it’s just a very different take on the Force, where it’s almost like a character itself, and has chosen someone to empower. It sort of makes Rey more like some sort of superhero really, compared to say, Anakin and Luke.

Realistically, a 4K release will have the same versions as the Blu-Ray set, but completely remastered. The prequels will all be 2K upscaled with an HDR pass, but Phantom Menace especially would benefit from a remaster.

Then, of course, is the coveted classic versions. I actually do believe Disney and Lucasfilm will be releasing those as well, as I'm skeptical that there is any obligations, contractual or otherwise, keeping them from doing so. Previously they weren't released because Lucas was in charge and had no interest in doing it. I don't think at this point he has any aversion to them being released, though.

I mean, especially after watching The Last Jedi, I thought it was pretty clear she doesn't know her family name because they dumped her when she was young. So she's just "Rey."

I never really had a problem with Rey, really. I just think her solitary upbringing made her tougher and more self-reliant than Luke or Anakin from the beginning, so she picks up things faster without help. I like the new films more for the other characters, though, but to be fair, Luke Skywalker was hardly my favorite character of the classic trilogy either.

And you believe this in spite of Disney employees specifically saying they won't be released, for the exact reason they've never been released before?
