White Walkers did not even participate in the fighting either. This ep has so many missed oportunities. Ugh
Is this the first time we’ve seen more than 4 white walkers?

I guess. The big issue for me is that they didn't really care enough to give us enough information about the NK so that we know how he operates. So we can all speculate about it but there's nothing concrete that the show has given us. I still think it made his character look incredibly stupid to get stabbed by Arya but then again, Arya is the main character and the NK is not so maybe that's the real point. I think it would have worked far better for me if they didn't spend 8 seasons telling me how dangerous and relentless this dead army was led by the NK.

They’ve even said it in interviews and stuff. Doesn’t look like they’ve spend a ton on the show. They act like they wouldn’t make their money back if they just spent a little bit more.

Game of Thrones set another record: Sunday night’s epic Battle of Winterfell was the most-tweeted-about scripted TV episode of all time.

The super-sized 82-minute season 8 episode — titled “The Long Night” — delivered more than 7.8 million tweets. According to Twitter, that’s a new all-time record.

Well i need to kinda agree with that because there was too much banding. Maybe if HBO had madvr debanding filter we could have watched the episode better. Just sayin...

It was 50 days of shooting for one episode. They spent plenty.

That's the thing though. The white walkers were peripheral to the story of all the human characters going on through almost all the seasons until we finally got to see them fully unveiled and they ARE a threat but people are looking at them now in isolation rather than all the seasons we saw hints of them AND season 7 when their story really ramped up. The truth is that we have 6 episodes this season for the whole series to end. So how much time did people honestly want spent watching undead Wights and NK who doesn't talk? Really, a serious question.

Personally i think dealing with NK and the army like this lets us focus back on the worst villains that actually stir the emotions far more. Cersei, The Mountain, Euron, Qyburn etc. The fact that the NK dies and his army defeated in one episode of Season 8 doesn't take away how much and effectively their threat was built up during season 7. Watching both seasons back to back or the series in a continuous manner would make it all seem far better imo.

People are forgetful because of the time gap between the 7 & 8 seasons as to the threat NK posed and imo was very effectively conveyed. He almost won! Hubris killed him.

$10 million an episode is a huge budget compared to other TV series. I know Walking Dead averages 2.5 million an episode.

And this episode took 11 weeks to film.

Any one remember last season finale where the creepy dude from kings landing picked up the zombie hand and gave it a look like “mmmm I gonna do experiments with this”

Wonder if he’s making something creepy like the mountain

I agree with this statement, generally speaking, but I thought that the way they did it was fairly disastrous. Years of character and plot development were undermined, and instead of watching a bunch of cool moments during the battle I was mostly asking myself "why are they doing that?" or "how did that character get from point A to point B?", or just being incredulous about what was happening on screen. I know the showrunners will say they were trying to emulate the chaos of battle or whatever, but to me it was just failed writing, direction, and editing.

I had just watched Endgame the day before (in addition to Winter Soldier and Civil War), so maybe I was just spoiled by the absolute masterclass of the Russo brothers blocking of action and ability to communicate space and location while managing to keep character and plot in mind at all times, that this just felt like a jumbled mess in comparison.

He did. So did Jorah. Jorah made it back from the charge. It seems obvious to me that Ghost did too.

I was very curious about the whole lord of light thing, and wouldn't mind to learn more about Melisandre's backstory too, but alas we'll never get that now.
In general it sucks, bunch of supernatural beings introduced and then killed off without any significant exposition/details or story.
Unless it was Bran warging into the past and we see that next week.

Yes, "realism" within the fictional reality of the fantasy world. Every good story has its rules and internal consistency, fantasy or not.

Well it showed Jorah fighting afterwards. I didn’t see Ghost again so I wouldn’t say it’s obvious, but I guess that’s what happened.

I’m disappointed, but not surprised, that this episode was mostly fan-service. The easy kill, very few deaths, amazing visuals.. I’m sure many viewers will be happy with it.

If GRRM had written it first, we probably would’ve gotten a more satisfying episode, but it is what it is.

HBO is producing at least one Game of Thrones prequel, from Kingsman and Kick-Ass writer Jane Goldman. The spinoff will follow the progression from the Age of Heroes into the Long Night, which takes place roughly ten thousand years before the events in the original show. None of the characters or actors from the main Game of Thrones will appear in the new show.

Am I mistaken or didn't Arya give Sansa the dagger (the "stick them with the pointy end" scene)? How does she have it at the end?
