Breaking it up with the docking bay scene makes it flow so much better.
I know discussing this scene is kind of a dead horse, but I just have to respectfully disagree. In my opinion, the Jabba scene in ANH is 100% worthless.

-It ruins the reveal of Jabba in ROTJ and turns him into a complete joke.
-it ruins the reveal of Boba Fett in ESB
-It ruins the reveal of the Milliennium Falcon, because we now see it before Luke does.
-It's redundant after the dialogue from Greedo
-It stops the movie dead for no reason

I feel like not having all of that is worth the abrupt dissolve.

Of course, I guess if you're watching "chronologically," Jabba's already been revealed in TPM

It's not just the tail, that entire scene was bad. Greedo is still alive in that scene, you can see him standing in the background. But Greedo was killed in a previous scene, so he shouldn't be there.

The problem is this was originally shot instead of that other scene, and they scrapped it in favor of the one inside the cantina. When George added it in with the CGI Jabba, he forgot (or didn't care enough) to digitally remove Greedo.

It's not Greedo. It's his brother Speedo. He always shoots first, but is usually late for his appointments ... Jabba mentions Greedo been fried, so I think it's another Rodian. Unless George's beard was directing that day.

They do actually mention Han offing Greedo in the original dialogue in that scene though, so while it's not beyond the realms that Greedo was originally supposed to have an entirely different design and Lucas changed it when it came time to shooting the Cantina scene, I'm happy to regard the dude in the hangar as just another Rodian.

I definitely hate the whole scene. It ruins the reveal in Jedi, the CGI thing looks nothing like the puppet, Han talks to Jabba in a totally different way than he should, Bobba Fett fan service (doesn't even make sense he would be hanging with Jabba before capturing Han anyway) etc. etc.

No editing smoothness issue with the theatrical makes that scene acceptable, IMO. I actually like a lot of Special Edition stuff, like say Cloud City effects or some of the CGI ship additions, but that Jabba scene is far from one of them.

To each their own, but I really got into Star Wars off the back of the SEs so I've never minded the Jabba scene as much as some, and whenever I watch the original cut that edit in Mos Eisley is always soooooo jarring to my admittedly philistine sensibilities.

I am honestly surprised that Lucas took the time and money to have Han walk over Jabba's tail and not just through it.

'cause this was the new FUN Lucas who thought nothing of having Han tread on Jabba's tail, the kids'll love it!!!!

As much as I don't mind the scene (especially how it plays in the '04 version) I still don't get why they didn't just cut away to Chewie or one of the goons when Han starts walking around Jabba and then cut back when he's in front of him. Alas, why do something simple when you can make a computer turn it into something SO much more complicated, eh George?

Aren't there at least two or three Rodians dressed exactly the same way in that scene anyway? I think it's just Rodian fashion sense rather than something Greedo-specific.

You're spot on, there's a few of them in that scene all wearing the same Rodian couture. So that's one 'error' that Scarface can knock off the list.

It's like how the Trandoshans in the Dark Forces / Jedi Knight games all dress like Bossk.

Yup. Always wondered that myself. Digital shot with dopey idea vs. paying for a day of people in costumes against a green screen so you have coverage to cut to...

There's also "Beedo" in Jabba's Palace. And if you have a good sound system you can hear Greedo's lines being spoken when Leia/Boushh first enters the main chamber.

And as for the "Speedo" comment, years ago in the game Star Wars galaxies I created a Rodian called Tangerine Speedo (name of a song) and made him a tailor dancer (also inspired by Mango from SNL). Oh that was a fun game...

Maybe to you, but the BDs for them look fantastic. The movies have never looked better. Just because they aren't the theatrical versions does not mean they look terrible.

Okay, I'm completely at a loss for what you guys are talking then. I must have missed something because someone made a comment on a deleted scene and now there is this argument over it or something.
