I don't know Lucas' position on the 3D thing, but it might also have been his way of showing you can make the image "pop" without resorting to 3D gimmickry.

(Oops, sorry, my bias "popped" out there. I'm not much impressed by the 3D thing, personally.)

This made me LOL.

I can understand why Lucas makes the changes to his films now.

People hate if you make changes and people hate if they dont get a version of a film WITH changes.

So if I was Lucas I'd go with the option that makes me more personally satisfied (makeing changes to his films so they look better to him) because at the end of the day theres always gunna be haters, so just do what makes yourself feel good.

I really want to read this review, but there's an obnoxious youtube link for the trailer hovering in the top left corner of the screen

Be careful, if you are caught showing favoritism or personal opinions on here you will be constantly attacked and ridiculed

I personally am not impressed with 3D either but I respect those people who are. My only gripe with it is when they push the 2D release of movies I want to actually go to the theater to see way back in the smaller theater with the smaller screen and the sucky sound system so they can put the 3D movies in the good theaters in the front. One reason why I have basically just stopped going to the theaters and just wait and buy the BR when it comes out now. That and people with Cell Phones in the theaters.

What browser do you use? Firefox with noscript and adblock plus and Element Hiding Hiding Helper for Adblock plus should be standard in every browser, I cant remember the last time I saw a pop up or unwanted ad on the internet

I'm a big fan of seamless branching to different versions, which at least gives people choice.

In the case of E.T., I'd be very happy if there was a release that let us watch the original cinema version of the film, but also gave an option to watch it with the extra footage Spielberg put back into the film for the extended cut. Just ... no walkie-talkies !!!!!

UK and North Europe sets seem to have them. If, as someone suggested, the discs' contents are the same as the US version, it's possible some subtitle tracks appear only when played in a certain region.

I agree with you there, I dont know if seamless branching could work so well what with all the changes to the OT. Theres just too many little tweaks between the various versions.

As for E.T. SS said 2012 with only the theatrical version, and apologised publicly for the changes he made to it!

And he said he has made no changes to the Indy films for their BD release.

This!

I have a feeling they will be player generated for some tracks so won't appear on every version due to living in a different country. So it's hard to say for sure if there will or wont be until someone in your region confirms it.

Yes, I've noticed that !!

Me too. I meant no disrespect to those who enjoy it. I personally find it a distracting gimmick, so I figure it's as fair for me to say so as those who want to say otherwise. (I know, that's out of step with this thread as well )

!! I completely agree, on both counts !

I'd be delighted if Lucas is going to put the Star Wars flicks back in the cinemas, but I hope he gives us 2D versions as well as the 3D. I'd be there like a shot.

I would definitely be down for seeing the OT in the theaters once again!! The first movie I ever saw was The Empire Strikes Back back in 1980 my Mom took me and I remember sitting there just in aww and was a fan ever since. I wasn't even 2 years old then, almost though. lol

Btw, I know this is kinda off topic but I guess we can kill some time
It probably has to do with 'extra' light that is emitted from the lens.
You should try to mask a portion of the lens, if possible... I have a Themescene 1080p projector myself, and it projects a lot more light than necessary. I made a little 'mask' out of black paper, and put it in front of the lens. This way only the portion that contains the actual image is projected. And the results are stunning. Deeper blacks, better contrast and a lot less of those grey bars you mention. In very dark scenes they may occur, but a lot less grey than they used to be.

Spielberg is wrong when he says there have been no changes to Raiders.

The HD print made that has aired on television the past coule of years has a cgi car flying off a cliff added to the film with cgi Nazi's falling out of it to their deaths.

This cgi addition WAS included in the new digital print Spielberg showed last night. I was there.

Either Spielberg is intentionaly misleading the audience to stay on their good side after the response to what is being done with Star Wars or he just plain is unaware Lucasfilm added cgi Nazi's to Raiders in the past couple years.

Maybe he meant no drastic changes like added Dialog or CGI gophers... lol He also fixed the reflection of the glass when Indy is staring down at the snake in the resting place of the Ark so yes, changes were made although nothing crazy like what Lucas has done to Star Wars.

I almost have the sneaking suspicion you're a LFL employee...?

Depth and honesty is the last thing you can say about the "noooooooo" addition...well, that and logic and common sense...

The cgi nazi's/truck added a couple years ago is rather subtle and I don't see how this cgi would bother too many people but to be a stickler it is a bit incorrect for him to claim no changes had been made. Since Raiders isn't exactly how it was shown in theaters in 1981 anymore.

Although if I had to I would bet that it was George Lucas who decided to replace the visual effect of the Nazi's falling with cgi Nazi's not Spielberg. I doubt Spielberg oversaw the intial HD transfer to be used for television airings since at the time he was likely busy with KOTCS.

Funny thing, I never seen the version with the walkie talkies. Granted I am not a huge fan of ET so I never owned it on VHS or DVD but everytime I seen the movie (including the last time in the spring in HD on the French channel here) it was the guns.
